He was born August 26th, 1929, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina to the late Fred Edward Foster, Sr. and Kathleen Donevant Foster. He is preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Kathleen Foster Francois, his brother, Fred Edward Foster, Jr., his sister-in-law, Mary Lou Foster, his brother-in-law, Wade Bodenheimer, and his brother-in-law, George Eanes.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of 69-years, Anne Crews Foster, his daughter, Karen Anne Foster and her partner Sue Steph, son-in-law, Michael Francois (Regina), and his grandchildren, Griffin Foster Francois, Zachary William Foster-Steph, and James Bryan Fulton.
He was educated in Forsyth County and Winston-Salem Schools and graduated from R.J. Reynolds High School. After WWll he served in the US Navy aboard the USS Boxer. After his service in the Navy, Bill went on to have a 40-year career in the food industry with Swift and Company and H.J. Heinz in Winston-Salem, North Carolina and the Keebler Company in Greenville, South Carolina. After retirement from Keebler, he worked in the food brokerage business for another 10 years.
Bill loved his church family and was an active member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church, where he was involved with the Christian Fellowship Class, and served as a church usher. He and Anne were members of Legionnaires Square Dance Club for over 40 years. Bill was also a Landmark Square Dance Hall Director. He was an avid golfer, loved to travel and spend time at the beach condominium with his family and friends. His grandsons were his true joy and he loved to spend time with them.
A celebration of Bill’s life will be held this Saturday, July 16, 2022 at 11:30am at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, with visitation beginning at 11:00am.
