Troy Devoe Leonard, 79, passed away on January 29, 2019. He was born in Startex, SC to the late Devoe Leonard and Hessie McCracken. He was a loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Troy Started working in the cotton mills at age 13, and joined the Navy at age 16. He retired after serving 22 years and 3 tours of Vietnam. He lived a full life including sailing the Caribbean for 9 years, to return to Greenville in 2000.
In 2005 troy was diagnosed with Parkinson’s, later determined that it was caused by Agent Orange; he fought it daily and never gave up.
Troy leaves his beloved wife, Joanie of 18 years, best friend and teammate. Together they battled his Parkinson’s until Jesus called him home.
He is survived by his three children: Robin Williams (Chuck James), David Leonard (Lisa), Michele Harvey; eight grandchildren: Chris McCormick (Constance), Daniel McCormick, Tyler McCormick (Heather), Joshua Leonard (Megan), Brandon Leonard (Asten), Blake Williams, Megan Williams, and Brianna Harvey; nine great grandchildren; nephews: Lamar Martin (Marci) and Scott Martin (Kelly). In addition he is survived by his Chosen Family: Alan Stuart, Jared Ardoin, Luxi King, Zander Allen, and Morgan Hatcher.
Troy is predeceased by daughter, Sabra Hendrick and sister, Jeanette Martin.
The funeral mass will be held at St Mary’s Catholic Church on Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at 12:00pm. The family will receive friends on Monday, February 4, 2019 from 5 – 8 pm at Mackey Funerals and Cremation at Century Drive.
