Tim was born in Charleston, WV where he graduated from Charleston Catholic High School in 1981. He excelled at both varsity football and baseball, where he developed many lifelong friends. He then went on to graduate from West Virginia State University in 1987.
Tim moved to Easley, SC in 1998, where he became the owner and founder of McKinney Dodge Chrysler Jeep and McKinney Mazda. He also was the developer of numerous commercial properties. One of his many ventures was Young Ford in Charlotte, NC which led him to develop 65 acres of real estate along the Light Rail at University City. For many years, Tim also owned a charter company, M & M Aero Group. As an aircraft enthusiast, he owned up to 13 airplanes, his favorite being his Beechcraft King Air 200. Not only did he enjoy flying, he also donated their use to healthcare facilities and families in need.
Tim was a strong believer in giving back to many local charities. He served 6 years on the Board of Directors for the Greenville Humane Society, and had a strong affection for dogs. He was also active in giving to the American Red Cross, SC Children’s Theater, Center Stage, the Metropolitan Arts Council, Cancer Society of Greenville, Senior Action, Secret Santa, Toys for Tots, Meals on Wheels, the Oconee Humane Society, the Children’s Museum of the Upstate, and the Clemson University Foundation. To say he had a giving nature would be a huge understatement.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth Ann White McKinney.
He is survived by his father, Clarence David McKinney of Easley, SC; two sisters, Julie McKinney of Morgantown, WV and Jill Niess of Warren, OH; 3 brothers, David McKinney (Erin) of Fort Mill, SC, John McKinney (Joy) of Simpsonville, SC, and Scott McKinney (Emily) of Williamston, SC; wife, Tracy Mancini McKinney of Boca Raton, FL; and eleven nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 15, 2021 from 5:00 -8:00pm at Mackey Funerals and Cremations at 311 Century Dr., Greenville, SC 29607. A private family burial will take place in Dunbar, WV, at a later date.
The family would like to thank all of the wonderful healthcare workers that have cared for Tim over the past year. They became a huge part of the McKinney family.
