Sarah Burt Walton, 80, passed away peacefully on December 21, 2022, surrounded by her six children and her loving husband of 58 years, Leland Walton. The cause of death was due to complications resulting from her recent stroke.
Sarah was born to William Harold Burt and Vera Mary Harris Burt in Tupelo, MS. She spent her childhood in Greenville, Mississippi and then attended college at Bob Jones University, where she met her husband, Leland Walton. They were married on January 2, 1965, and together they reared six children, while living in Clearwater, FL. Sarah was an Administrative Assistant at Skycrest Christian School (Clearwater) for 20 years, where she had many close friendships with teachers and students alike that she has held dear until her death. Sarah was very involved in her church, Calvary Baptist of Clearwater. She has always had a servant’s heart and sought to share the gospel whether at school, church or while holding backyard Bible clubs in her neighborhood for children. In recent years she enjoyed serving and hostessing events at University Baptist Church in Clemson, SC. Throughout her life, Sarah continued to enrich her knowledge and application of the Bible. She took various counseling courses and gave biblical counsel to many friends and family over the years. For the past 20 years, Leland and Sarah have lived in South Carolina enjoying their retirement and living near their 21 wonderful grandchildren.
Sarah is survived by her husband, Leland Walton, and her sister, Mary Anna Burt Dixon of Monrovia, CA. She is predeceased in death by her sister, Sue Burt Mathews. She is also survived by her six children and their spouses: Karen (John) Gray; Shelley (Rod) McCarty; Todd (Wanda); Carese (Larry) Myers; Greg (Christy); Stephanie (Bill) Kammer. She is survived by her 21 precious grandchildren: Ryan, Jack, Morgan, Amelia, Charlie, Lawrence, James, Caroline, John Davis, Levi, Harris, Annabelle, Sarah, Liam, Sam, David, Daniel, Ben, Matthew, Violet Wren, and Grant. Sarah was also a loving aunt to many nieces and nephews.
A Visitation will be held at University Baptist Church, 411 Pendleton Road, Clemson, SC 29631, on Monday, January 2, 2023 from 2:00pm to 3:00pm, with a Memorial Service to follow at 3:30pm. (*There will be a livestream link available for those unable to attend.)
