He was the son of the late John Stanley White and Carrie Ethel Mooney White. During World War II, he was a P51 (Mustang) fighter pilot with the 5th Air Force, 3rd Air Command Group in the Pacific Theatre.
He graduated from the University of Tennessee with a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering. He was a member of Tau Beta Pi, Alpha Chi Sigma, Phi Gamma Delta, and was a registered professional engineer. A very active member of Christ Church, he was a former Warden and member of the Vestry, an Education for Ministry (EFM) mentor, and a Cursillo leader. He was a missionary on the engineering team that installed the water-well system in Haiti and visited the country numerous times. He was also a decades-long member of the Christ Church choir.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Thompson White, his daughters Kathleen Cole (Michael) and Carol Tomlinson (Patrick), his beloved stepdaughters whom he raised as his own children Michelle Elizabeth Breeze (David) and Christine Diane Osborn, his grandchildren, Eli Cole, Alex Cole, and Barclay Nickel (Nicole) and beloved grandson Dr. David Cole (Amy).
He is also survived by his adoring step-grandchildren Eden Breeze and Gabriel Breeze, and six great-grandchildren. He is predeceased by his first wife, Margaret Stout White.
He was a member emeritus of the Greenville Country Club, the Reserve Officers Association (ROA), and the Executive Sertoma Club.
The memorial will be held at Christ Church Episcopal in the Markley Chapel on November 14, 2023, at 3pm, followed by a small reception.
