Robert Hugh Brown, 93, of Taylors, S.C., went to be with the Lord August 3, 2015. Born in Lavonia, Georgia, he was the son of the late John Thomas and Bertie L. Brown. He was predeceased by his wife of 67 years, Lucille Garrett Brown, and by his two brothers and two sisters. He is survived by his six children, Tony Brown (Nancy), Kathy Culclasure, Larry Brown (Judy), Nancy Hill, David Brown, and Anthony Davis; eight grandchildren; and twelve great grandchildren. Mr. Brown lived his entire life in the Greenville area except for three years during World War II when he served with the 10th Air Force as a radio operator in the China/Burma/India theatre. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, the Chinese "Special Breast Order of the Yun Hui” Medal, the World War Victory Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. Mr. Brown was in the trucking business with his brother for many years. He later helped with various charity organizations such as the Greenville Police Charities and the S.C. Troopers Coalition. He enjoyed and participated in sports such as baseball, bowling, golf, and fishing with his family and many life-long friends. He was an avid Braves fan and a Masters patron, who, when he could no longer go to the tournament himself, enjoyed sharing the tickets with family and friends. A dedicated family man and faithful friend, he will be greatly missed. The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Reed Mathias, Right at Home caregivers, and Hospice Care of S.C. for their excellent care of Mr. Brown. They are especially grateful to his niece Jo McAlister for her loving assistance.
The funeral will be at Woodlawn Funeral Home, Friday, August 7, 2015, at 11:00 AM. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association. Because of illness, the family will not be receiving visitors at the home. www.woodlawn-fh.com
