Robert Alan Blackmon, 73, of Greenville, passed away on December 20, 2016. Born in 1943, he was a lifelong resident of Greenville, SC. He was predeceased by his parents, Gordon G. (Doc) and Ann Garren Blackmon and a half- brother, Gordon G. Blackmon, Jr. Alan was a 1964 graduate of Furman University and a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity. He served as Chapter Advisor for Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity from 1998 - 2002 and on the board of directors for the Duncan Chapel Corporation. Alan was a Furman Football supporter, enjoyed attending the games and practices with members of the "On the Hill" gang. He was employed by Steel Heddle Manufacturing Company for 28 years and held the position of financial coordinator when retiring in 2001. He became a member of Earle Street Baptist Church in 1953. He served the church faithfully as the financial coordinator for 15 years, serving on various committees, and as singles Sunday school class teacher. Becoming an Eagle Scout with Troop 11 in 1958, he saw the importance of working with Scouts, which led him to serve the church as Charter Organizational Representative for the Boy Scout Troop 30. Alan enjoyed car culture of the 60's, and was one of 3 founding members of Carolina Corvettes, Inc. Surviving is stepson: Scott McMillan (Sonya) and their children, Raegan and Cooper of Greenville, SC; his nephew, Gordon Blackmon, III,(Robin) of Aiken, SC; and his friend and caregiver, Sharon McMillan of Travelers Rest, SC.
Funeral service will be held on Friday, December 23, 2016 at 11:00 am at Earle Street Baptist Church, 225 W Earle St, Greenville, SC 29609 with Dr. Stephen Clyborne officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
