Reuben Rogers Asbury III

Bud, as he was affectionately known, was born on February 19, 1954, in Greenville, SC, the son of Reuben R Asbury, Jr and Isabelle Asbury.

Bud was known for his kindness, adventurous spirit, love of the outdoors, and his stubbornness when he felt he was right.

Bud was a graduate of Presbyterian College where he earned his undergraduate degree in Special Education. He was a member of Kappa Alpha Order at PC. He continued his education at Furman University where he earned a Master of Education degree.

He was a dedicated teacher, coach and mentor to many while teaching at Wade Hampton High School and other schools in the Greenville County School District. Whether in the classroom, on the Nantahala rapids, or around his neighborhood, He was there to lend a hand, be a companion, and help however he could.

He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed rafting and kayaking, rock climbing and repelling, and guiding fellow adventurers. He had a special love for the Nantahala River, where he spent much of his free time. He volunteered many of his summers at Camp Old Indian in Travelers Rest, SC.

Bud was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his two sons, Reuben R Asbury, IV (Ben) and William S Asbury (Will); his siblings: Helyn A Sink, Mittie I Asbury, and India A Powell; and many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held to honor Bud’s memory following the Christmas and New Year holidays. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made, in Bud’s name, to Boy Scouts of America at blueridgecouncil.org/donate, or a donation of your choice.
