Phyllis Helen Gallas Pugh, 87, passed away on October 19, 2022 in Greenville, SC. She was born at home in Chicago, IL on October 28, 1934. As the third of six Gallas children, she grew up singing, dancing and performing with her brother and sisters.
She met her husband, George, in high school. They were married on March 26, 1955, and began their life together at 901 West Brookwood in Bensenville, IL. Phyllis started her career working at Hines VA hospital. She also worked at Kelley Girl and Chemtron Corporation; she later retired as a customer service representative from PPG Industries in Pennsylvania. She and George spent the next 30+ retirement years in Leesburg, FL.
Phyllis was characterized with a feisty joy for life and a desire to make everyone around her feel at home. She loved traveling and camping with her family, singing songs, and playing games. She was also a gifted seamstress and cook, and her family has been the constant recipient of her kindnesses. George and Phyllis demonstrated love and excellence on the dance floor at many a gathering.
Throughout her whole life, Phyllis was the definition of a truly hospitable woman. She was an amazing wife, mother, mother-in-law, sister, sister-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, and godmother.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her siblings, Joan Passanante, Edward Gallas, Jr., Judith Oeffling, Marlene Lundborg, Linda Glover, and her parents Edward and Helen (Michaelsen) Gallas.
Phyllis is survived by her beloved husband of 67 years, George Pugh; her son, Gregory Pugh and his wife, Erin; her daughter, Nancy Estelle and her husband, Rudy; her grandson, Daniel Pugh and his wife, Katherine; her granddaughter, Tiffany Brannen and her husband, Dan; her granddaughter, Sela Estelle; her grandson, Jonathan Estelle; and her great-grandchildren: Sophi Brannen, Addison Brannen, Lillianna Brannen, Ivan Pugh, and Levi Pugh.
