Patricia H. Wheeler

Patricia Hollifield Wheeler was born on May 8, 1940 to Curtis Sr. and Wilda Hollifield. An amazing woman was taken home to her Lord and Savior Sunday night, December 4, 2022. Pat Wheeler grew up in Greer, South Carolina and graduated from Greer High School. She married John W. Wheeler III on August 18, 1962. After finishing two years at North Greenville College, she graduated with Honors from Furman University and began teaching for a short time at Hillcrest High School in Greenville. Pat Wheeler worked in real estate as well as teaching Psychology and Sociology at North Greenville College, now University, from 2003-2006. Under the guidance of the national Bethany Christian Services office, she opened the first Bethany office in SC. She spent her life serving God by serving others. There are untold numbers of children who are alive today because of her work with Bethany Christian services. She retired after 20 years of service counseling women and working on international and local adoptions. Pat Wheeler was an active member of Second Presbyterian Church of Greenville for 60 years where she was a member of Women’s Circle and small group.

In 1996, she was awarded the Order of the Palmetto for her work in adoption by Governor David Beasley, which is the highest civilian honor awarded to South Carolinians who demonstrate extraordinary lifetime achievement, service and contributions of national or statewide significance. She was also chosen for the Angels in Adoption award. Our family has been blessed beyond measure to call her wife and mother! She will be missed but for those of us who know the Lord, we know we will be together again.

She is survived by her husband, John W. Wheeler III, four children, Suzanne Brown (Rex), John Wheeler (Lesley Jones), Karen Zdonek (Jesse) and Janet Dorneker (Jerry) as well as twelve grandchildren, Abby Williams, Philip Brown, Adam Brown, Andrew Brown, Sammy Yeargin, Sam Brown, Jacob Brown, Emma Wheeler, Sara Wheeler, Ansley Zdonek, Eli Zdonek and eight great grandchildren. She is predeceased in death by a grandchild, Morgan Dorneker. She is also survived by her brother Curt Hollifield (Doris).

A visitation for Patricia will be held Monday, December 12, 2022 from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM at Second Presbyterian Church, 105 River St, Greenville, SC 29601, followed by a funeral service at 3:00 PM.
