Born to loving parents, Thomas and Anna Durkin, Patty’s life was marked by her devotion to faith, family, and service. On November 8, 1958, she married the love of her life, Alfred Galway Groves, and they shared 66 beautiful years of marriage until his passing in 2024. Together, they built a strong and loving family that was the cornerstone of Patty’s life.
She was the beloved mother of six children: Shannon (Kevin) Blackmore, Scott (Rhonda) Groves, Eric (Dee Dee) Groves, Micah Groves, Seth Groves, and Wendy (Joel) Frans. Known affectionately as “Mom-Mom,” Patty poured her love and energy into her family, taking immense pride in her 14 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. She cherished every moment spent with them, creating memories that will be treasured forever.
Patty’s life was a testament to her favorite Bible verse, Isaiah 40:31:
"But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint."
Her faith was the guiding light in her life, reflected in her selfless dedication to her family and her support of ministries that shared her passion for helping others.
Patty is survived by her six children and their spouses, her grandchildren, and her great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Alfred, and her brother Tommy Durkin.
A private family gathering will be held on Sunday, January 19th, at Mackey at Woodlawn.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Patty’s memory to organizations close to her heart: Miracle Hill Ministries, The Wilds, and Hidden Treasure Christian School.
Patty’s unwavering love, deep faith, and joy-filled spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. She will be deeply missed but forever cherished.
