She was born in Greenville, SC on December 14, 1929 to Joseph Edward Baity and Mary Elizabeth Dempsey Baity. She grew up in the American Spinning mill village and graduated from Parker High School. She went to work at the age of 16 and worked continuously until well into her 70s at various businesses in Greenville including Clinton Corn Processing Company, Southeastern Insurance Service, Canal Insurance Company and Mackey Mortuary. While working as a commercial underwriter, she was active in the National Association of Insurance Women. In her youth, she was a member of Holmes Memorial Pentecostal Holiness Church, and for the past 60 years she has been a member of Lee Road Baptist Church. Nina was absolutely devoted to her family and truly lived her Christian faith, always putting the needs of others ahead of her own.
She is survived by her daughter Susan Parker Spivey and husband John of Raleigh, NC, her son Edward M. Parker of Taylors, SC, grandsons Joseph Edward Rittiner of Durham, NC, Michael Parker Rittiner of Raleigh, NC, nieces Brenda Baity of Greenville, SC and Carol Baity Halliday and husband Emmett of Spartanburg, SC, and grandnephews Jake, Nathan, and Alex Erwin. In addition to her parents, Nina was preceded in death by brothers Joseph Edward Baity, Jr. and John Claughton Baity, sister Mary Ellen Baity Staton, brother-in-law Thomas Adolphus (T.A.) Staton, sister-in-law Ramona Caldwell Baity, and nephews-in-law John K. Erwin, Sr. and James N. Latshaw.
The family would like to thank the many kind staff members at The Palmettos of Mauldin Assisted Living, NHC HealthCare Mauldin, and Lutheran Hospice for the loving and compassionate care they gave to our beloved Mama Nina. She will be laid to rest privately at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Greenville.
