Nicholas John Gainer, 76 passed away Friday, November 21, 2014 following a brief illness. Born in St Louis, MO and raised in Morgantown, WV, Nicholas was the youngest son of the late Antoinette and Dr. Patrick W. Gainer. He graduated from St. Francis High School (1955) and West Virginia University (1959) in Morgantown. He also obtained a Masters Degree from Alfred University in New York. Nicholas is survived by his wife of 55 years, Eleanor Jo, four children; Laura, Nicholas, Brian and Sarah, 7 grandchildren and numerous other relatives and friends. ?Throughout his long and rewarding family and professional life, the Gainer family resided in Newark, DE, Hammondsport, NY, Madisonville, KY, Red Lion, PA and Petersburg/Moorefield, WV. In retirement, Nick and Eleanor spent several years in Florida before moving to Greer, SC where they spent the last 8 years. Nicholas is fondly remembered by his family, friends and colleagues as a loving husband, nurturing father and an exceptional friend and consummate professional. He carried a life-long love for West Virginia and was an avid Mountaineer fan. He loved music, Civil War history and telling stories about his family for which he was extremely proud. He was also an honorary Kentucky Colonel and served on the West Virginia Human Rights Commission. The family will have a memorial service and reception on Saturday, November 29th, 2:30pm at St. John University Parish - Newman Hall which is located at 1481 University Ave, Morgantown, WV 26505.
