Naomi was born in Cheyenne, Wyoming on April 16, 1941 to Reginald and Pauline (Thompson) Hinrichs. Her father led her to the Lord at an early age. She graduated from Academy High School in Erie, Pennsylvania in 1958 and married James Deuink on November 21, 1959. The couple had three children in three consecutive years (’62, ‘63, and ‘64).
Naomi worked alongside her husband in several ministry roles throughout her life, including K-5 teacher and school secretary for Stone Mountain Christian School in Stone Mountain, Georgia, where Jim was principal in the ‘70s. When the Deuinks relocated to Greenville, SC in 1980, Naomi joined the executive secretarial pool at Bob Jones University while Jim worked in administration. She became administrative assistant to Mrs. Beneth Jones, retiring in 2006.
Naomi was a church organist for most of her life, beginning as a teenager. For her, making music was a means of bringing glory to God. She was a member of the American Guild of Organists and earned two AGO certificates.
After retirement, Jim and Naomi became active members of Gideons International, where Naomi was women’s chaplain of the Greenville North Auxiliary Camp.
Jim and Naomi were members of Faith Baptist Church in Taylors.
Naomi was an attentive, affectionate, and fun-loving mother and grandma. She hosted large family gatherings and started a variety of memorable traditions, such as the flaming yule log (ice cream dessert) and birthday cake for Jesus at Christmastime. She and Jim kept a detailed list of prayer requests and prayed daily for each child and grandchild.
Naomi is survived by her husband, Dr. James William Deuink, Sr.; three children, Debbie Peery (Jon) of Travelers Rest, SC, Robin Hoffmann (Greg) of Sumter, SC, and Bill Deuink (Julie) of Charlotte, SC; one brother, Ivan C. Hinrichs (Marcy) of Charlotte, NC; thirteen grandchildren (Rene Beagle, Annie Corbett, Russ Peery, Nancee McClaran, James Peery, Bruce Oliver, Rodney Woods, Jordan Deuink, Josh Deuink, Claire Joyner, Drew Hoffmann, Grace Hoffmann, and Will Hoffmann); and 9 great-grandchildren (Bailee Corbett, Mackendrick Corbett, Cora Peery, Cece Woods, Parker Beagle, Clay Peery, Quentin McClaran, Lee McClaran, and Evie Deuink).
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by one great-grandson, Rhett Corbett.
