Nancy grew up on a farm and graduated from Dacusville High School as valedictorian. She attended Winthrop College, majored in history, and went on to teach school after graduation. Nancy married her childhood sweetheart, “Dub,” and they settled in Greenville, SC where they raised their three sons. She was a devoted Clemson fan, with her uncle, S.C. Jones, being the donor of Howard’s Rock. She attended every home Clemson game until she was 92, and attended 2 national championships. She passed this love of Clemson to her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Nancy had a zest for life and a passion for family. She loved to host parties, was an amazing cook, and was very active in her grandchildren’s lives. She was involved in the community, including Agape Sunday School Class at First Presbyterian Church, a dance club, and the Poinsett Club. She was an avid reader, and was a walking history book. She and her husband enjoyed traveling the world later on in life. If you knew Nancy well, you knew that she never met a stranger or had a lack of words.
Nancy was an extremely strong woman who faced many trials within her lifetime. She lost her mother at ten years old, lived through the Great Depression and World War II, battled breast cancer three times, and lost many loved ones. She never once gave up, and was determined to continue to live life to the fullest up until the very end.
