Mildred Bowers Thompson, age 96, of Greenville, South Carolina passed away on Friday, September 18, 2020. Mildred was born and raised in Six Mile, South Carolina, one of ten children, on October 29, 1923 to Nancy Gravely Bowers and Elbert Gordon Bowers.
Mildred was married for 50 years to the late Calvin Matthew Thompson.
Mildred graduated from Six mile High School and Draughon's Business College. Following graduation, she was former Bookkeeper for C.M. Thompson Co. and a former Administrative Assistant for Family Counseling Service.
Mildred was a Charter Member of St. Matthew United Methodist Church in Greenville, SC.
Mildred, lovingly called "Grammy" by her granddaughters, found great joy working in her garden. She was known for her delicious potato rolls and she loved Bowers family gatherings.
Mildred had difficulty seeing everything except her great grandson's "beautiful blue eyes".
Mildred's family would like to thank Susan Thompson, Susan Hunter and Brenda Jackson for the love and care they gave "Grammy".
Mildred is survived by son Alan Thompson; and son Mark Thompson (Amy); granddaughter Alia Thompson Paramore (Luke), granddaughter Rachel Thompson Davis (Lipscomb), granddaughter Kelly Thompson Sujka (Joseph) and great grandson William Lipscomb Davis V.
Mildred was preceded in death by her husband Calvin Matthew Thompson; father Elbert Gordon Bowers and mother Nancy Gravely Bowers; sister Elizabeth B. Gantt; sister Louella B. Perkins; sister Alice B. Whitmire; sister Nora B. Ashley; sister Pearl B. Alexander; brother J.C. Bowers; brother Elbert Gordon Bowers Jr.; brother John E. Bowers and brother Bill G. Bowers.
A visitation for Mildred will be held Tuesday, September 22, 2020 from 2:00 PM to 2:45 PM at Mackey Funerals and Cremations at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 1 Pine Knoll Drive, Greenville, SC 29609, followed by a funeral service at 3:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Mildred's honor to Open Arms Hospice, 1836 W. Georgia Rd.
