Matthew (Mack) J. Charpia, 87, husband of Louise Rhodes Charpia passed away Sunday April 26, 2015.
Born in Charleston, SC, he was the son of the late Matthew Jackson Charpia, Sr. and the late Blanche Nettles Charpia.
Mr. Charpia was in the car business for 52 years; having a car dealership in Charleston with his father before moving to Greenville in 1960 to work with Attaway-Easterlin Pontiac. In the following years he worked with other dealerships in the Greenville area before retiring from Fairway Ford of Greenville as General Manager.
He was a member of White Oak Baptist Church. His strong faith and Christian principles drove his dedication to providing the best always for people whether it be family, friends or strangers who came in contact with him along his path of life.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 69 years are two daughters, Carolyn Charpia of Greenville, and Gloria Boiter (Larry) of Taylors, SC; one son, David Charpia (Tracye) of Chapin, SC;
four grandsons, Todd Boiter of Murrells Inlet, SC, Ryan Boiter (Maranda) of Taylors, SC, Barrett Charpia and Matthew Charpia both of Chapin, SC, and a great grandson, Zen Robinson, of Taylors, SC;
one brother, Harold Charpia (Joan) of Charleston; three sisters, Louise Stalvey (Donald) of Charleston, Evelyn Eidson of Columbia, and Virginia Lewis of Jacksonville, Florida.
Mr. Charpia is also survived by brothers and sisters-in-law, Mona Boyd of Kingstree, Howard Rhodes (Buena) of Columbia, and Charles Rhodes (Janice) of Lake City, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son, Matthew Jackson (Maxcy) Charpia III.
Funeral service 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 29, 2015 in the Chapel of The Mackey Mortuary, 311 Century Drive, Greenville, SC 29607.
The family will greet friends immediately following the service.
Graveside service 1:00 p.m. Thursday, April 30, 2015 in Carolina Memorial Gardens, 7113 Rivers Avenue, North Charleston, SC 29406.
Many special thanks are extended to the kind nurses and staff at Interim Health Care Hospice as well as his doctors who have treated him with care.
