Mary Helen Sabbatis Jones, 81 passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, October 22, 2022. Mary was born on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 1941, in Pennsylvania to the late James Sabbatis and the late Hannah Jane Anderson Sabbatis Cannon.
Mary lit up a room wherever she went and was always the center of attention. She never met a person that didn’t gravitate towards her. Children were naturally drawn to her and her own children would be drawn to her as well. Mary sacrificed her body, standing in water working at a pipe company to put braces on her daughter’s teeth. She loved her husband and children dearly and was an amazing cook. Her meals always brought people together. It was always the stolen moments that meant everything to her. Mary took pride in her home, always sewing curtains or table runners to decorate her house. She also sewed many of her daughter’s clothes when they were young. Mary always wanted to make her home a safe space for her kids, grandkids and great-grandson. She loved her bird, Elvis, and her cat, Stubby. Mary also loved roller skating, dancing, and collecting knickknacks for her home.
Mary was and is the glue that held the family together, even when they were apart. She was the Queen Bee! Mary will live on in the traditions that she taught her daughters, and that they have passed down to their kids, and they will passed down to theirs.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.
Left to cherish Mary’s memory are her husband of 65 years, Buddy Jones; daughters, Wendy Jones Messer (Anthony), Brenda Jones (Julie), Stephanie Jones Rivera (James) and Mary Jane “MJ” Jones; grandchildren, Kaitlin Rivera Sherer (Jordan), Hannah Rivera, Emily Messer, Sarah Rivera, Christopher Rivera, Ethan Messer, and Grace Rivera; great-grandson, James Sherer; and one brother.
A private family gathering was held on Tuesday, October 25, 2022, at Mackey Funerals and Cremations at Century Drive.
