Mary Anita Speed Buchanan died Thursday, August 7, 2014. Born in Johnson City, TN, she was the daughter of the late Anita Haun and George Thomas Speed of Johnson City, TN. She was educated at East Tennessee State University Training School and College. She moved to Greenville in 1952 and was a member of the Dellwood Club, Women’s Club and Northside United Methodist Church where she was a member of the choir and Women of the Church. She was also a certified lay reader. In addition to her husband of 67 years, Ronda Councill Buchanan, of Greenville; Mrs. Buchanan is survived by three children, Ann Councill Buchanan of Greenville; Thomas Speed Buchanan and wife Julie of Greenville; Mary Patricia Buchanan Minor and husband John of Greenville. Nine grandchildren; Ross Buchanan Plyler and wife Courtney of Greenville; Wesley Thomas Plyler and wife Beth of Greenville; Julianne Buchanan Dunning and husband David of Mt. Pleasant; Thomas Speed Buchanan, junior of Atlanta; Kristen Buchanan Powell and husband Erik of Charlotte; Lillian Haun Minor, Frances Wikle Minor, Eleanor Buchanan Minor and John Raymond Minor IV all of Greenville. She had six great-grandchildren; Annette Plyler; Jay Plyler; Taylor Dunning; Counts Plyler, Reese Plyler and Elsie Plyler. She is also survived by a sister Martha Gene Taylor of Johnson City, TN. She and her husband enjoyed antiquing and she particularly loved beautiful silverware and linens. Mrs. Buchanan enjoyed working at several antique stores in Greenville throughout the years. Visitation will be on Sunday, August 10, 2014 from 3 p.m - 4:30 p.m. at Northside Methodist Church, 435 Summit Drive, Greenville.
