Marie Dautel Newman

She was born in Cape May, New Jersey to the late Edwin Booth Newman and Muriel Wells Newman. Marie grew up in Wilmington, North Carolina and attended UNC-Wilmington and graduated from Furman University while working a full time job. Her career spanned as an administrative assistant at Thalian Hall, Wilmington and at Furman University and the City of Greenville.

Marie had a quick wit, passionate about animals, the beach, gardening and her family and friends. After retirement, Marie was an active volunteer for Habitat Humanity and was Volunteer of the Year.

Marie was predeceased by her parents and brother Edwin Wells Newman. She is survived by her sisters, Margaret Newman of Morehead City, North Carolina and Lenora Newman of Wilmington, North Carolina. Marie leaves behind cousins and two special nieces, Stephanie Fisher and Elisabeth Hawley.
