Lucille Cowan Harbin, 97, of Greenville, SC passed away Sunday, June 5, 2016. Born in Tomassee, SC, Mrs. Harbin was a daughter of the late W.S. Cowan and Nancy Sloan Cowan. She was a graduate of Tomassee DAR and Greenville School of Nursing. Mrs. Harbin served in the U.S. Army and Third Army in France as a Registered Nurse. During the war she received battle ribbons for the Battle of Bulge and Rineland Campaign. She was honorably discharged as a Captain when WWII ended. In her nursing career, she admitted the first intensive care patient to Greenville General Hospital and continued in many areas of service at the hospital including 17 years on the intensive care ward. Her service to the Lord was important to her as she served as Sunday School teacher and helper in various activities at Pendleton St. Baptist Church. She was devoted to her family and taking care of others. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles M. Harbin, Jr.; and 6 brothers and sisters. She is survived by a son, Charles M. Harbin, III; 2 daughters, Nancy Harbin Stowe and Kathy Harbin Anderson; a sister, Fannie Cowan Reed; 9 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will held at 1pm Sunday, June 12, 2016 at Greenville Glen, 1101 Garlington Road, Greenville, SC 29615. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
