Greenville, South Carolina
On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross,
The emblem of suffering and shame;
And I love that old cross where the dearest and best
For a world of lost sinners was slain.
So I’ll cherish the old rugged cross,
Till my trophies at last I lay down;
I will cling to the old rugged cross,
And exchange it some day for a crown.
To the old rugged cross I will ever be true,
Its shame and reproach gladly bear;
Then He’ll call me some day to my home far away,
Where His glory forever I’ll share.
Louise Crain was the wife of the late Sam J. Crain.
She was called home on Thursday, March 19, 2015 after years of struggling and the dream of walking again.
One year ago almost to the day she lost her only son, Sam J. Crain, Jr. Her daily grief and struggles with these losses were more than her frail body could handle.
Feel no sorrow in a smile that she’s not here to share. Her smiles and time on earth went to the following survivors: her daughter and son-in-law, Ann C. and Robert H. Vaughn, their children, Robert Seth and wife, Jennifer Vaughn, Cassi Vaughn Buys and husband, Jeff. Her biggest smiles went to her four beautiful great-granddaughters: Anna Scott and Vaughn Buys, and Gracen and Emerson Vaughn. Mrs. Crain was also survived by her two sisters, Lillian Smith of Tullahoma, TN and Nancy Barone of Greenville, SC.
Special thanks to her neighbors on Bridgewater Drive and her Sunday School Class, the Lydia Bible Class at White Oak Baptist Church, for their kindness. There are no words great enough to say to the special staff at NHC on Pelham Road. There are too many names to mention. The unbelievable kindness from her Nurses, CNA’s, Activities, Office Staff and the friends that made her time there a way of life where God was always present!
My Mother had many favorite things, and those were her Lord and Savior, her desserts and love of shopping. Her favorite hymns were “The Old Rugged Cross”, “How Great Thou Art”, and “In the Garden”.
Mrs. Crain is at The Mackey Mortuary where the family will receive friends Sunday afternoon, March 22, from 1:30 p.m. until 2:15 p.m. with the funeral service to follow at 2:30 p.m. with Ken Bogan officiating.
Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Lee Road United Methodist Church “Kitchen Fund”.
The Mackey Mortuary.
