She was the daughter of Mrs. Nellie Burton and the late Robert Burton, Jr.
A member of Tabernacle Baptist Church, Joyce was educated in the Greenville County School System. She was employed with Gannett/USA Today.
Joyce leaves to cherish memories her husband, Mr. Carl Dowdy of the home; sisters, Rebecca Burton of Greenville, and Shirley Rice (Melvin) of Charlotte, NC; brothers, Robert Sylvester Burton and Tony Burton of Greenville. She also leaves a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be Monday, November 21, 2016 from 6:00pm – 7:00pm at The Mackey Mortuary, 311 Century Drive. The funeral will be Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at 1:00pm at Tabernacle Baptist Church, 400 S. Hudson St. Greenville, SC.
Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
