Ladye was the daughter Ann H. Eastland and the late O. Newell Eastland. She is survived by her beloved husband of forty-seven years, Ken, her mother Ann, mother-in-law, Betty Kelley, brothers Newell and Stephen and sister, Tracy. There’s also a long list of nieces, nephews, and in-laws that all loved her and will miss her greatly. She also touched the lives of many others with her experiences, expertise, compassion and knowledge.
Ladye served the community as a RN beginning in 1983. She spent most of the time serving in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and Emergency Room (ER) and finished her career as the Trauma Transport Nurse at [then] Greenville Memorial Hospital.
In addition to serving the community as a nurse, Ladye lived life wide open. She earned her private pilot’s license and also spent much time learning and practicing martial arts (Aikido). She also raised and trained Dobermans and competed with them in AKC conformation registered shows.
Together Ladye and Ken travelled all over the country enjoying every minute, whether they were in an RV, rock climbing, swimming with the dolphins in the Bahamas or even petting the wild donkeys near Las Vegas. She also enjoyed long walks with her Dobermans and sometimes they were even joined by her adoring husband Ken.
Ladye’s love for animals was sparked in her early teens with her big red horse, Big Red. She loved that horse, and every other animal she encountered after that. She never met an animal she didn’t like.
Ladye and Ken danced their way through life and even competed in shag dancing competitions with SPA and won the 1989 Amateur Championship and the Novice title in 1990. She loved to dance like no one was watching even though everyone was watching.
These are only a few highlights of Ladye’s life. They barely scratch the surface of the fullness of the things she and Ken have done, the places they’ve gone and the memories they share.
Special thanks go out from Ken and family to the management and staff of the Oaks at Chanticleer for their attentive and gentle care of Ladye during the recent weeks and months - Brittney, Natalia, Jannon, and especially Lilly. Your special touch will forever be remembered and cherished in our hearts and memories.
