We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Karen Elizabeth Nelson Strange, affectionately known as Nana, who left us peacefully on April 21st, 2024, at the age of 84, surrounded by her family. Born in Asheville, NC on June 11th, 1939, and was a beacon of joy and laughter, touching everyone she met with her radiant smile and loving personality.
Nana made everyone feel loved and important. She was a true giver and hugger, always ready to cheer you up or lend a supportive shoulder. Her life was about kindness. She enjoyed playing the piano, loved participating in her grandchildren’s lives, cheering at their sporting events, and celebrating their academic achievements.
She loved helping organize her high school reunions and made sure they were fun and memorable. Cooking and shopping with her daughter and granddaughters, along with family travel adventures were special times cherished for joy and closeness. A dedicated and loving wife, Nana shared a beautiful life with her husband Joe of 63 years.
Nana was as lovely inside as she was outside, with her hair always perfect. She cared deeply about helping others and was always the first to offer a kind word. Nana was the heart of our family and the life of every party. She loved social gatherings and never missed an opportunity to bring people together.
Nana leaves behind a family who adored her, including her husband Joe, her daughter Charlotte Chandler (Jim), her son Doug Strange (Holli); her grandchildren, Caroline Chandler, Will Chandler, Joseph Strange, Logan Strange, Jackson Strange, Jake Strange, Lauren Strange; her siblings, her older brother Ralph Nelson (Sally), her twin brother Bruce Nelson (Carol), her sister Jane McDonnold (Harry, predeceased), her sister Betty Hanes (Grayson), and many cousins, nieces and nephews that she loved.
