Josh Burgess, 17, of Greenville, went to be with his Lord and Savior December 5, 2018. Born in Greenville he was the son of Daniel and Bonnie Hartman Burgess.
Josh was a senior at Wade Hampton High School and a member of the Varsity Football Team. He was an active member of Northgate Baptist Church, coached for Taylors Youth Association Football, and Northgate Baptist Church 3rd – 5th Grade basketball team. He had plans to attend North Greenville University to obtain a degree in coaching. He had a natural gift of connecting with kids and adults alike, and making them feel special, needed and most importantly loved.
Surviving in addition to his parents, Daniel and Bonnie is his sister, Lily Burgess; maternal grandmother, Myra King all of Greenville; paternal grandmother, Judith Burgess of Travelers Rest; and many aunts, uncles and cousins that loved him dearly. Josh had many friends, some so close that he considered them family. The closest two being Jack Gerwig and Adrian Gleaton. Also surviving is his girlfriend Olivia Jebens who loved him unconditionally. He is preceded in death by his grandfather’s Larry Hartman and Warren Burgess.
Funeral services will be Saturday, December 15, 2018 at 1:00pm at Brushy Creek Baptist Church with Dr. Barry Jimmerson officiating. In addition to his pallbearers; Jon Burgess, Robert Burgess, Andrew Burgess, Max Hartman, Nick Hartman & Tom O’Leary, all cousins, the Wade Hampton Varsity Football team will be honorary pallbearers. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park where all are welcome.
The family will receive friends Saturday prior to the service from 11am until 12:45.
The family asks that in honor of Josh please wear your favorite jersey, team colors or team shirt to the funeral,
