Josh "Jp" Preston Lackey

Josh “JP” Preston Lackey, Jr., 96, passed away surrounded by family on 28 May, 2021 at McCall Hospice House. He was the son of the late Josh Preston Lackey, Sr. and Rosalee Barwick Lackey. Josh was the youngest and the last of 8 brothers and sisters from Paxville, SC (near Manning).

Josh entered service with the US Army Air Corp as an Aviation Cadet in 1943 serving 19 years as fighter pilot. Josh was Director of Accounting for Greenville County Schools from 1960-1975, then at Spartanburg District 6 until his retirement in 1985.

Surviving are three children: Joan Waddell (Bennie), Carol Ethridge (Dale) and Josh Lackey III all of Greenville; four grandchildren: Graham, Chandler, Jessica and Ben.

Predeceased by his loving wife, Mildred Marshall Lackey “Tootie” and seven siblings: Myrtle Lackey, Elwood Lackey, Eulalee Lackey Hughes, Blondine Lackey Still, Huggins Lackey, Bowen Lackey and Doris Lackey Copeland.

The family wish to thank the staff and nurses at McCall Hospice House, St. Francis Downtown, and Greenville Post-Acute for the level care the last 2 weeks of Josh's life.
