Born in Greenville, he was a son of Dorothea Dillard and the late Johnny James Petropoulos.
He was a member of St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, an officer of AHEPA Chapter 242, and active with both the Greenville Greek Festival and the Scottswood Homeowners Association. He was a graduate of Wade Hampton High School and attended Montreat College. Jimmy worked with his father at Atlas Printing Company and was an avid golfer until an accident in 1993 forced him into early retirement from both. He was an avid Clemson Tiger fan. Despite his own pain, Jimmy always kept a positive attitude and had an infectious laugh. He will be greatly missed by his family and numerous friends.
Jimmy is predeceased by his father and by brothers, Mark James Petropoulos and Charles J. Petropoulos. He is survived by his wife, Cathy, of Greenville; a sister, Denise Petropoulos Curry of Columbia, a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ray and Ann Gravley of Munford, Tennessee; a niece, Allie Petropoulos Anthony (Dustin); a nephew, Charles John Petropoulos, all of Anderson; nieces Ashley and Mills Curry of Pageland; a niece, Robin Gravley of Covington, Tennessee; three nephews, Chris, Brandon, and Daniel Gravley, all of Memphis, Tennessee; and numerous cousins and friends.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 26th from 6:00-8:00pm at The Mackey Mortuary with the Trisagion at 7:00pm.
A funeral service will be held in the Chapel at The Mackey Mortuary on Monday, November 27th at 11:00am. Burial will follow the service at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
