Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Hazel Scott Moore and RC Moore, and by her husband, Jackie Foster Gilley, their son, Michael Dwayne and her sister Vicki Hillen. She is survived by her daughter, Angela Dawn Sheppard, and husband, Paul Sheppard, of Greer SC as well as her grandchildren, Savannah, Mahala, Carson and John, and her brother, Gary Moore, and wife, Gayle Moore, of Eden, and sisters-in-law, Pat Gilley and Janice Gilley Kocher.
Joan was a graduate of John M. Morehead High School. Immediately upon graduation she was hired as a bank teller at Southern National Bank in Eden where she eventually retired as Executive Vice President.
Joan was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She had a servant's heart and lived to do for others. She was the type of person you would invite to your home, and she would insist on doing the dishes. She was the mother and grandmother everyone wanted or wanted to be. Whether a sporting event, school event, choir performance, or special occasion, GG (as the grandchildren called her) was always there. She went out of her way to make every birthday, holiday, or the random Wednesday special, as she was the queen of hospitality, doing everything with love. She did nothing halfway. GG always wanted everything to be perfect for those she cherished, and it always was.
From a church office volunteer to the dog sitter for her granddog, Bob, she gave tirelessly of herself, never wanting recognition. The world is a much better place because she passed through it.
Joan was a member of Covenant United Methodist Church in Greer, SC where she served faithfully.
A celebration of life service will be held at Covenant UMC 1310 Old Spartanburg Rd, Greer, SC 29650 on Tuesday, August 16th at 10:00 am.
