She is survived by her husband, Michael Wayne Fowler, her daughter, Summer Aimsley Fann, and her husband, Jeffrey Fann of Simpsonville, SC, one brother, Robert William Cleveland of Haysville, KS; and one sister, Elizabeth Gentry of Greer, SC. She was preceded by her mother, Mossy Cleveland, two sisters, Constance Ivester and Clara Cleveland. In addition, she is survived by multiple nieces and nephews.
Joan was born and raised in Greenville, SC and graduated from Greenville High School and Winthrop University. She had a degree in Elementary Education and taught 3rd grade at several schools during her career. Later, she felt her gifts would be best used to create the perfect loving home, foster her daughter's education, and spend time with her family. She loved her family greatly and supported her husband and daughter in many ways so that they could be successful in their careers.
While growing up with modest means, she knew that wealth was in family and the ones she loved. Her spirit was a loving and serving one and she served her family wonderfully.
As a child, her mother described her as a sweet girl who brought an animal home every other day. She was a wonderful daughter, sister, wife, mother, mother-in-law, and aunt. She had an infectious laugh and smile that could light up a room.
Joan loved the Lord and was a passionate children’s Sunday School teacher who faithly served the Lord . In later years, she would serve the Lord in other ways by serving in the church in various duties such as preparing lunches for church members with funerals and managing Sunday School class functions.
One of her big hobbies was that she was an avid Genealogist that researched all her family histories and enjoyed sharing stories and facts about these families with her loved ones. When someone needed information on a family member from the past, Joan was the one who had all the information needed.
She will be greatly missed and the family is reassured knowing that she is with the Lord Jesus and her family members in heaven.
The family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 PM on Monday, January 29, 2024 at Mackey Funerals and Cremations at Woodlawn, 1 Pine Knoll Drive, Greenville, SC 29609 followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM. Burial will be after the funeral in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
