James was born on March 15, 1946 in Mobile, Alabama to Virginia Nicholas and James Palmer LaCoste, Sr. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Cynthia Fletcher LaCoste; his two sons: James Palmer LaCoste III (Jenni) and Christopher Fletcher LaCoste (Jessy); five grandsons, one granddaughter and four great grandchildren.
Jim attended Murphy High School in Mobile, Alabama. Then attended University of Alabama graduating with a BA, BS and MA degrees. Jim was a member of Beta Gamma Sigma Business Honor Society and a member of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity. Jim was a BAMA fan thru and thru: ROLL TIDE!
Jim served in the US Army from 1969-1973. He was a Company Commander for the 903rd Engineering Maintenance Co. Jim moved to Greenville, SC in 1976 to work for Daniel Construction in Labor Relations. He worked with Flour Corporation for 40 years.
Jim (aka Papa) was the life of the party and always had a smile for everyone he met. His love was infectious and once you met him you always wanted to be in his presence. He was always humming or singing a tune. Always happy with a smile on his face. His favorite thing was to spend time with friends and family making memories over lunch, golf or poker nights. He loved to laugh, told the best stories and was just a wonderful man. Period. He and his smile will be deeply missed, and we will all hold the memories he gave us close to our hearts. Rest in peace. We love you.
