James Edwin Hall

James E. Hall, 92, of Meadow Lane, Anderson, passed away Saturday August 13, 2016. He was born in Greenville on April 20, 1924 to the late James Edwin and Louisa Trammell Hall. He was married to the late Margaret Byers Hall for 50 years.

He is survived by a daughter, Margaret (Penny) Hall Ruark, and her husband, Ed, of Tampa, FL; two sons, James Edwin (Jim) and his wife, Susan, of Hawaii; Roy Daniel (Skip) and his wife, Marie of Greenville. He is also survived by his brother, Roy Preston (Betty) of Easley and his daughter, Terry Hall Hanna (Mark) of Bristol, TN; a sister-in-law, Edith Byers (Emmett) Brooks and brother-in-law, Daniel Lee (Jane) Byers, all of Greenwood. He has special cousins, Calvin and BJ Edwards of Brevard, NC and a long time close friend, Marion Howell of Anderson. James has five grandchildren, Clay and Preston Hall of Greenville, Nolan James Ruark of Tampa, Alisa (Dennis) Strack of Hawaii and Beki (Will) Gettys of Columbia, SC. His great-grandchildren are Benjamin and Lainey Strack and Eli and Hugh Gettys. He has numerous nieces and nephews, all from Greenwood.

James graduated from Parker High School. He attended Clemson College and graduated from Furman University with a degree in accounting. In between Clemson and Furman, he served in the Navy during WWII, stationed in Northern Ireland. After graduating from Furman, James went to work for Southern Bell in Greenville, Columbia and finally in Anderson, SC, where he retired in 1980. After retiring, James went back to work with Robert T. Foster, PA, for 20 years. James and Margaret were active members of First Baptist Church in Anderson for many years.

A memorial service will be Wednesday, August 17 at 1 PM at First Baptist Church Greenville in the Carpenter Chapel.

The family would like to invite friends to join them immediately following the service at the Augusta Grill Restaurant, 1818 Augusta St.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Special Olympics, 109 Oak Point Dr., Irmo, SC 29063, or to the charity of one’s choice.
