James Arthur Dunlap, Jr., MD, beloved husband of Rebecca Elizabeth Dunlap, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, September 1, 2015.
Born in Charleston, SC, in 1929, he was the son of James Arthur Dunlap, Sr., and Thelma Irene Taylor Dunlap.
Art was a graduate of The College of Charleston, MUSC, and studied at Baylor University, culminating in a distinguished career as a radiologist. He joined Hood, Whitaker, McLane and Dunlap (with Drs. Willis Hood, Thomas Whitaker and Robert McLane). Later he was co-founder of Greenville Radiology Professional Association (GRPA), as well as co-founder of Radiology Consultants P.A. with Dr. Ted J. Roper.
Art served in the Korean War with the U.S. Navy Reserve, and was attached to the 1st Marine Division. His favorite pastimes included painting, reading, traveling, dancing and listening to music. He especially enjoyed attending performances at the Peace Center.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Greenville.
Surviving are his wife of 23 years, Rebecca Elizabeth Dunlap, sons James A. Dunlap III (Susan) of New Iberia, LA, John A. Dunlap (Patti) of New Orleans, LA, Jeffrey A. Dunlap of Maui, HI, Joel A. Dunlap (Lori) of San Antonio, TX, Jayson A. Dunlap of Portland, OR; daughter Julie Dunlap McNamara (Teddy) of Coronado, CA; grandchildren Maggie and Will Dunlap, Alex and Harrison Dunlap, Lucy and Hampton Dunlap, and Sophie and Ben McNamara.
He was predeceased by his first wife Betty Jean Genoble Dunlap.
A celebration of Art's life will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Greenville on Sunday, September 6, 2015, at 4:00 PM.
Visitation to follow in Harper Prayer Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions will be made to First Presbyterian Church of Greenville or Interim Hospice.
Arrangements have been entrusted to The Mackey Mortuary.
