He was born in Greer, SC. in 1922 and grew up in the Mt. Lebanon area as the youngest of 8 children. A 1941 graduate of Jordan High School, he was a Staff Sergeant in the Army during WWII. James retired from the Food Brokerage Industry after more than 40 years service with three different companies.
James was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Ruth Dacus Babb. Both were faithful members of Hampton Heights Baptist Church. His daily care of and devotion to Ruth for her last 6 years of declining health served as an inspiration to many friends and acquaintances.
Surviving are his son, Allen, and Daughter-in-Law, Valerie, of Madison, AL ; two granddaughters Erin and Jennifer; Sisters Alta Babb and Lizzie Flynn; a brother Claude; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, June 26, 2010 at 3:00 pm in the chapel of Woodlawn Funeral Home with burial to follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Visitation will be prior to the service from 2:00 – 3:00 pm in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Meals on Wheels or Hampton Heights Baptist Church.
