Homer Boland Frick, 87, died Tuesday, August 10 at Highland Farms Retirement Community in Black Mountain, NC. Prior to Highland Farms, Mr. Frick resided in Greenville, SC for 52 years. Born in Little Mountain, SC on June 26, 1923, he was the second youngest of six children born to the late David Olney and Eula Boland Frick. After graduating from Little Mountain High School, Mr. Frick began his career with the South Carolina Department of Transportation. With the outbreak of World War II, he entered the United States Army and served in the South Pacific as an electrician. After the war, he resumed his career with SCDOT. Retiring after 40 years of service, he was recognized by colleagues throughout the state for his superior surveying skills. As a location engineer, he had laid out many of the major highways in upstate South Carolina, including Scenic Highway 11, , US Highway 25, and Interstates I-385, I-85, and I-26.
He was a member of Buncombe Street United Methodist Church.
Mr. Frick was predeceased in 1990 by his wife of 39 years, Johnnie Tessier Frick of Laurens, SC.
He is survived by his son, David Frick of Pasadena, California and daughter, Juanita Frick of Asheville, NC, nephews Don Young of Simpsonville, SC, Harry Frick of Asheville, NC, Randy Halfacre of Lexington, SC, Mike Lindler of Chapin, SC, Marty Frick of Little Mountain, SC, and niece Harriett Haltiwanger of Newberry, SC. He was predeceased by brothers Birge Frick and Carroll Frick and sisters Gladys Young, Irene Lindler and Myrtis Halfacre.
Visitation will be held Friday, August 13 from 6:00-8:30 p.m. at Woodlawn Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 14 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Woodlawn Funeral Home with burial to follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
