2018. He and Margaret were married for over 53 years.
Born in Travelers Rest, he was a son of the late Rex Elmer and Minnie Capell Hawkins.
Harold graduated from Travelers Rest High School, Class of 1961. He furthered his education at Greenville Technical College, studying Engineering Graphics Technology, and Furman University, Business Administration.
Harold worked in electrical engineering at Daniel Engineering, J.E. Sirrine, and Davis Electrical Constructors.
In addition to Margaret, he is survived by his sons, Craig Reynolds Hawkins and Harold "Hal" Reid Hawkins; and siblings: Gary Hawkins, Marguerite H. Ballenger, Linda H. Carter, and Elaine H. Nalley.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded by a brother, Larry Hawkins; and a sister, Judy H. Williams.
Harold, Margaret, Craig and Hal are members of Buncombe Street United Methodist Church, where Harold and Margaret were members of the Tommy Thomason Sunday School Class. Harold sang in the choir for many years. He was a supportive and faithful spouse to Margaret in her music ministry, including her organ recitals, her students' recitals, and her service as Organist and Director of Music.
He was an excellent father to his sons, teaching them skills of auto mechanics, woodworking, small engine repair, and general maintenance around the home.
He and Margaret loved the mountains and Edisto Beach. They reared their sons at Edisto Beach, creating a love that remains in their hearts.
Harold was a Godly man, a strong Christian. He loved to read God's Word, and lived his faith by his gentle, unassuming nature. He was a true Southern gentleman.
Visitation will be Sunday, December 16, 2018, in the Parlor of Buncombe Street United Methodist Church, from 3:30 to 4:15 PM, with the Service in the Chapel at 4:30 PM, officiated by The Reverend Grover Putnam. Music will be provided by Mr. Vance Jenkins, Organist/Pianist, and by Mrs. Rosemary Hughes, Vocalist and Director of Music and Arts. Committal will immediately follow the Service in the Columbarium.
