A lifelong resident of Greenville, SC, he was born on November 27, 1943, son of the late Addie and Earl Kent Elkins.
Kent was a proud graduate of Greenville Senior High School and attended both the University of South Carolina and Furman University. He served his country as a member of the Thirteenth Army Finance Disbursement Section in Vietnam. Kent was a charter member of the Golden Strip Sertoma Club and worked in the insurance business for over 40 years.
Kent was a dedicated member to many Masonic Orders. He was initiated into the Order of DeMolay in 1959. He also served the Free Masons and the Greenville Scottish Rite Bodies. Top honors include being elected Grand High Priest and Most Worshipful Grand Master of the Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of Ancient Free Masons in South Carolina, as well as coroneted a 33° Degree of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite.
In addition to his wife, Kent is survived by his daughter, Leslie Anne Elkins of Philadelphia, PA; his son, daughter-in-law, and grandson, Brian Kent, Jennifer, and Ryley Kent Elkins of Simpsonville, SC; his two sisters, Barbara Jo Johnson of Athens, GA and Julia ParaLee Hunnicutt of Greenville, SC; as well as many more loving family members.
Visitation will be at Mackey Funerals and Cremations at Century Drive, 311 Century Drive, on Friday, February 11, 2022 from 1-1:45pm. Services will be held in the Mackey Chapel at 2:00pm followed by internment at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 1 Pine Knoll Drive.
