Geraldine “Geri” Zimmerman Warren, 72, died on Saturday, June 25, 2022. Geri was born on November 23, 1949, and grew up in Inman, SC. She was a small-town girl and a Southerner through and through. She graduated Chapman High School in 1968 and was voted “Most Likely to Succeed.” She then followed her parents’ footsteps to Furman University. There, she met a tall, dark, and handsome football player named Steve Warren who sat behind her in Dr. Huff’s history class their freshman year. The two were married in August before their senior year.
After graduating Furman with a B.A. in education, Geri moved to Columbia with Steve. While in Columbia, Steve graduated from USC Law School and Geri taught reading at a local elementary school. Steve and Geri then moved back to Greenville and eventually had two sons—John and David. She lived on N. Main Street for 22 years and in Chanticleer for 19 years. She lost her beloved husband to cancer in 2013 and her younger son David to traffic accident in 2016.
A true patriot, Geri loved her country and state. She had a passion for the conservative movement, Republican politics, and her community of friends within South Carolina Republican clubs. For over 30 years, she was a political activist and her positions included, President of Greenville County Republican Women’s Club, Secretary of the Greenville County Republican Party, and numerous other positions.
She loved playing, baking, gardening, and making crafts with her three grandchildren, all of whom brought great joy to her life. She also loved cooking, decorating, touring historical homes, and arranging flowers. She loved visiting her home town of Inman and Lake Cherokee. She was a member of the Prime Time Sunday School class at First Presbyterian Church in Greenville.
Geri was the daughter of Hydrick Dean Zimmerman and Geraldine Bishop Zimmerman. She is survived by her son John Warren, his wife Courtney Warren, and her three grandchildren John Steven “Stevie” Warren, III, Andrew “Drew” James Warren, and Catherine “Cate” Bryant Warren. She also is survived by her brother, Herbert W. Zimmerman and his wife, Margaret Wingo Zimmerman, of Inman; a niece, Leah Z. Rollins (Jason) of Inman; a nephew, Herbert (Bert) W. Zimmerman, Jr. (Savannah) of Meggett. She is also survived by four grand nephews, Ben, John Thomas and Paden Rollins, and Eliot Zimmerman; two grand nieces, Lillian and Pearl Zimmerman. Geri was predeceased by her husband John Steven Warren, her son David Zimmerman Warren, and her brother Hydrick D. Zimmerman.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 29, from 10:00 to 11:00am at First Presbyterian Church at 200 W Washington St, Greenville, SC 29601. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, June 29, at 11am at First Presbyterian Church at 200 W Washington St, Greenville, SC 29601.
