Frances Duncan Tate, 86, passed away Saturday, February 10, 2018, at home in Simpsonville, SC after a short battle with cancer. Born in Greenville, SC, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Viola Duncan. She was married to the late Bert J. Tate for 63 years.
Mrs. Tate is survived by a son, Michael V. (Mike) Tate and his wife Kathy of Fountain Inn, SC, 2 grandchildren, Jeremy Michael Tate and Jenny, of Charleston, SC, Ashley Tate Young and Seth of Easley, SC. She is also survived by a sister, Doris Duncan Filmon and Loy of Aiken, SC, and great-grandchildren, Matthew Tate and Grant and Lydia Young. Mrs. Tate was predeceased by her daughter Valerie Lynne Tate in 1968, and her brother, Jack Duncan.
Frances and Bert worked for many years with the young people of Mauldin First Baptist where they were affectionately known as Mama and Papa Tate. She was very active in her church in WMU, YWA's/Acteens, Sunday School and the Pearls Group for widows. She loved crafts of all kinds, including jewelry-making and painting.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 13, 2018, from 6-8pm at Mackey Funerals & Cremations at Century Drive in Greenville. Funeral services will be Wednesday, February 14, 2018, at 2:30pm at Mauldin First Baptist with Rev. Wade Leonard officiating.
