Effie Louise Kelley Altman, “Woman Who Speaks Her Mind”, 94, passed away on Saturday, November 26, 2022 at her home. A native of Greenville, SC. Effie was the daughter of Crawford Kelley and Fannie Arrowood Kelley. She was married to Lawson DuRant Altman for 47 years before his passing in 1993.
She was a member of Wade Hampton Baptist Church. Effie was also a member of the Lower Eastern Cherokee Nation SC where she served on the Elder’s Council. Effie was proud of and cherished her Cherokee Heritage and was loved by many tribal members for her wisdom and knowledge. She will also be remembered for being strong willed and fun loving as well as a caregiver for many but most of all, she loved her family.
She is survived by daughters DeeDee Crump (Charles Glenn) of Taylors, SC and Chief Mary Louise Worthy of Laurens, SC along with one son Dennis Altman (Sandra) of Fountain Inn, SC. She had five grandchildren; Misty Howard (Chad), Melanie Riddle (Thomas Gallegos), Melissa Holliday (Scott), Dennis Altman, Jr. (Melanie), and Jeremy Altman (Carolyn) and many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Effie was predeceased by her loving husband, Lawson DuRant Altman, granddaughter Lynn Ducker Weigand, grandsons John Ducker and Dusty Crump and sisters Helen Kelley Boggs and Nellie Shields. Also, a sister in law Evelyn Elkins who was a treasured best friend and dancing buddy.

A visitation for Effie will be held Sunday, December 4, 2022 from 1:00 PM to 1:45 PM with a funeral service to follow at 2:00 PM at Mackey Funerals and Cremations at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 1 Pine Knoll Drive, Greenville, SC 29609. A committal service will occur Sunday, December 4, 2022 at 3:00 PM at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 1 Pine Knoll Drive, Greenville, SC 29609.
