Ed graduated from Needham B. Broughton High School in Erwin, NC where he was an all-star athlete playing football, baseball, and basketball. After graduation, he joined the Navy and served his country for 3 years. He then received a football scholarship to Clemson University where he was coached by the legendary Frank Howard. He earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Ceramic Engineering. During his time at Clemson, he married Ellen Douglas Taylor, and on February 19th of this year, they celebrated 63 years of marriage together.
Ed had a very successful career as an engineer. He rose through the executive levels and traveled worldwide in Europe and Asia with Union Carbide. He retired on March 31, 1998 as Vice President of Tantalum Product Management for Kemet Electronics.
Ed lived life to the fullest. He loved a party, attending and hosting amazing tailgates at Clemson football games, and spending hours boating on Lake Hartwell and enjoying his family at their home on the lake that he and Ellen built. He was a 4th of July Firework Legend. One of his favorite places to be was by the water. He once said that a home by the water is a little bit closer to God.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his stepmother, Ellen B. Bost; his sister, Grace Rouse; two brothers, Jimmy Bost and Barry Bost; his beloved daughter, Stacy Bellamy Bost Ramey; and his first grandchild and lake buddy, Taylor Miller. Surviving in addition to his wife Ellen Bost are his daughters, Paige Wintz and her husband Joe, Debbie Sloane and her husband Mike, and Carolyn Miller; his son, Heath Bost and his wife Tirzah; three grandchildren who adored their “Pop”, Alexis Davis and her husband Michael, Beau Sloane, and Joey Wintz; one great grandchild, Nylah Davis; and nieces and nephews who loved their “Uncle Eddie”.
Ed/Dad/Pop/Uncle Eddie was a dynamic part of his family, his friends, and this world. He will be missed by all that knew him. We are all comforted by the fact that his reunion in Heaven with those that went before him will be the best party that he has ever attended. Until we see you again. Cheers. We love you.
A service to celebrate Edwin’s life will take place on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at 11:00 am at Mackey Funerals and Cremations at Century Drive, Greenville, South Carolina.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to SPCA, Greenville Humane Society or Shriners Children's Greenville.
