Born on May 8, 1953 in Orangeburg, South Carolina, Larry was the son of the late Cecil Lawrence and Mary Frances Owens Greene. He graduated from Wade Hampton High School in 1971 before earning a degree in construction science at Clemson University. After graduating from Clemson in 1976, Larry worked in contractor sales in Greenville before establishing his residential and commercial construction company, E.L. Greene, Inc. in 1981. For thirty-nine years, Larry served the state of South Carolina as a licensed general contractor. He prided himself in building strong relationships with his clients and was known and respected in the building industry for his high standards and exceptional quality.
Larry was a past member of First Baptist Church of Greenville SC and later attended First Baptist Church of Spartanburg SC.
Larry will be remembered as a devoted husband and father who valued time spent with his family. Some of his fondest memories included summer vacations to Holden Beach, boating on Lake Jocassee, and bass fishing on Lake Marion. He was an avid Clemson fan and enjoyed attending and tailgating at Clemson football games with family and friends.
Larry is survived by his wife of forty-three years, Brenda; his son and daughter, Matthew Greene and Mary Elizabeth Greene of Greenville; and his sister, Mary Frances Coleman of Taylors. In addition to his family, Larry leaves behind many extended family members and lifelong friends.
A graveside service following current health and safety measures will be held on December 7, 2020 at 3:00 pm at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Greenville, SC.
