Dorothy “Dottie” King Greenville Dorothy “Dottie” King, 89, passed away on Monday, March 16, 2015 at her home where she resided since 1952 and loved so much. She was born September 8, 1925 in Greenwood, SC, and resided there until graduating from Greenwood College of Commerce. At sixteen years old, she relocated to Atlanta, Ga and started her working career at Lockheed Aircraft which was in mass production leading up to WWII. She then relocated to Greenville in 1952 and went to work with Daniel Construction Company. In 1958 she became Buck Mickel’s assistant. She and Mr. Mickel worked closely together until his death in 1998. She always said Mr. Mickel was the greatest inspiration on her life. She remained with Fluor Daniel until her retirement in 2006 at age 81. She was predeceased by her husband, Dennis C. King; her father, Robert Patterson Faulkner; mother Katherine Rhodes Faulkner; and sister, Virginia Whittier. Surviving are her three children, Joeseph Ulmer II and wife Jan living in Dunedin, Florida; Bonnie Pittman and husband Jimmy living in Simpsonville, SC, and daughter Donna King living in Mettlock, Germany; four grandchildren, Jennifer Ulmer, Joeseph Ulmer III, Adam Pittman and Zach Pittman; and two great grandchildren, Abby Ulmer and Brynn Pittman. Dottie always put her family first, she loved and cared for all. For many years she has supported The Epworth Children’s Home, Clemson University, Wofford College and the United Way. She was once described by a friend as “one of the most industrious individuals I have ever met, male or female, on the job or otherwise”. She was always busy with a project, whether it was hers or someone else’s, and her family learned many years ago, that she kept everyone busy around her too. She was a member of the Palmetto Connection and served on the association board at Palmetto Dunes Plantation at her home in Hilton Head for 22 years, which was her favorite getaway. She loved all sports and was an avid Clemson fan. Dottie was a long time member of Buncombe Street United Methodist Church and was a Charter Member of the Saints Society with her loyal support through intentional planning for the future of the church. She also served as Secretary to the Church Board for many years. Funeral Services will be 2:00 PM Friday, March 20, 2015 at Buncombe Street United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 12:45 until 1:45 PM Friday, prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park. Serving as Pallbearers will be Mrs. King’s grandsons, Joeseph Ulmer III , Adam Pittman, and Zach Pittman; also her loving, caring friends who were always a part of her family, Paul Barnett, Wayne Tucker, and Frankie Teague. The family would like to give a special thanks to Dottie’s longtime, very devoted caregivers, Stacy Allison, Tracie Hudgins, Courtney Burkett and Ivey Griffith. Dottie was always grateful for their help, love and friendship. Also, very special thanks to the staff of Open Arms Hospice and especially Deborah Martin (Dottie’s nurse) and Marie Chapman.
