She was born on December 1, 1937 to parents William Marshall Riddle and Mabel Lupo Riddle.
Dorothea graduated from Greenville High School in 1956 and attended Anderson University and Furman University. After their marriage in 1958, she moved to Orleans, France where John was stationed. A lifelong lover of gardening and a consummate “green thumb”, she was a South Carolina Master Gardener and a Consulting Rosarian of the American Rose Society. Over the decades, she served as president of the Mauldin Garden Club, Simpsonville Garden Club, and Clarice Wilson Garden Club.
Her love of beautiful things extended to her Greenville home, originally built by the young couple in 1966, where her collection of nearly 200 rose bushes and curated collection of plants earned a spot on the Greenville Council of Garden Clubs tour of 2006 and 2013.
She was a member of Reedy Fork Baptist Church, of which her paternal grandparents were founding members, and of First Baptist Greenville. She loved the Seminar-Corder Sunday School class she attended with John. Dorothea and John were also long-time supporters of Generations Group Home.
Surviving are her husband of 66 years John F. Thomasson Jr., son Mark Thomasson, daughter Tonya Thomasson Wettlin and husband Randy Jacobs, granddaughter Kelsey Wettlin Murry and husband Sam Murry, grandson Ryan Wettlin and partner Kate Sanfillipo, grandson Bryson Wettlin and wife Jayna Meyer Wettlin, great-grandsons Oliver Thomas Wettlin, Walker Meyer Wettlin, Sterling John Wettlin, and Benjamin Joseph Wettlin, and nephew Jay Marett and wife Molly Marett.
Special thanks to the caregivers from Pruitt Health Hospice provided kind and gentle loving care which is appreciated immensely by all who love Dorothea. The family would also like to recognize Vickie Sicilia for her incredible support and compassionate care for Dorothea in her final days.
Service will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday July 24th at First Baptist Church Greenville located at 847 Cleveland St., Greenville, with visitation to follow.
