Donald A. Long, 53, of Travelers Rest, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, while surrounded by family on Wednesday, April 14, 2021. He was born on July 12, 1967 in Warner Robins, Ga., the son of Robert T. and Sandra K. Burdette Long.
Known to his family as “Donny” and to many of his friends as “Don”, he had an incredible sense of humor, a beautiful smile and was considered the charming one of the family. He loved to talk about politics, religion, and conspiracy theories. He also loved fishing and had an incredible “green thumb” and love for plants. Don was an Army veteran, a graduate of Greenville Technical College, and was employed by Woodlawn Memorial Park. He was a hard worker, but more importantly a loving father, son, brother, and friend. He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his loving parents Robert T. and Sandra K. Long of Fayetteville, NC.
Donny is also survived by his two children Bradley Long and Paige Ross (Drew) of Travelers Rest, and his six-year old grandson, Braxton Long, of Greenville; his brothers, Anthony Long (Donna), of Winston Salem, NC, Joe Hidalgo (Karen), of Hamilton, VA; his sisters, Sandy Anderson (Mark), of Fayetteville, NC, and, Lorrie Holley (Randall), of Cartersville, Georgia. His memory will also be cherished by his nieces, Kayla, Christina, Courtney, Kelsie, Jessica, Jacquelyn, and Clara, his nephews, Chris and Jonathon, as well as two great nieces, three grand nephews, and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 15, 2021 at 1PM at Mackey Funerals and Cremations at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 1 Pine Knoll Drive, Greenville, SC 29609.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests planting a tree in Donny’s honor (www.plantmemorialtree.com) or donating to the American Cancer Society.
