Born on June 20, 1933, in Madison, Wisconsin, son of the late Rodger F. and Lucille M. (Wohlfert) Gorsline, he received his Bachelor’s degree from Bob Jones University, Greenville, South Carolina, and his Masters’ degree from Appalachian State University.
After serving in the United States Army, Mr. Gorsline taught at Bob Jones University from 1961-1986. He then worked for the South Carolina Department of Transportation until his retirement in 1998.
He was preceded in death by two sisters (Jean (Borchert) of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, and Janet (Brinkman) of Mequon, Wisconsin).
He is survived by his wife of almost 59 years (Myra (Norland); three sons (James (Sherry) of Lilburn, Georgia; Ronald (Rebekah) of Chattanooga, Tennessee, and Douglas (Sonja) of Brevard, North Carolina); eleven grandchildren (Justin, Diana (Mrs. Seth Teegarden), Megan, Angela (Mrs. Kyle Lefler), Nathanael (Krista), Melanie, Micah, Kristina, Abigail, Cameron, and Benjamin); three great-grandchildren (Callie and Braxton Teegarden and Avery Gorsline); two brothers (Robert Gorsline of Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin, and Merlin Gorsline of Montfort, Wisconsin), and one sister (Verna (Mrs. Gary Brevik) of Grand Prairie, Texas).
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, February 2, at Mackey Mortuary.
The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, February 3 at Mackey Mortuary, followed by a private burial at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Wilds Christian Association in Brevard, North Carolina or to the mission fund of the North Hills Community Church in Taylors, South Carolina.
