A memorial service will be held at 12:30pm Sunday, December 27, 2015 at the John Knox Presbyterian Chapel in Greenville, SC.
She is survived by three daughters, one son and four of five grandchildren; Gena Gilreath Cox, Tom and their children Dustin and Brooke; Martha Gilreath Rittgers, Rex and their children Ross and Morgan; Susan Gilreath Hanks and her son, James Hanks; and Bruce Gilreath, son of Jay and Dana. She was a beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Dana spent virtually all of her life in Greenville, SC, graduating from Greenville High, class of 1943. She graduated from Florida State University in 1947.
She and James Wesley Gilreath were married in 1946. After his death in 1959, she attended and earned her Masters of Library Science degree from Florida State University and worked for the Greenville County School System.
The highlight of her career was the establishment of five elementary school libraries in Greenville. After her retirement, Dana enjoyed a great deal of volunteer work especially at John Knox Presbyterian Church of which she and her husband were charter members.
Dana greatly enjoyed the FULIR Program at Furman University; her family; and her cherished friendships. She always took pleasure in being of help to others. Dana was a wonderful and attentive daughter to her mother, Martha Willson, throughout her mother’s life. Dana loved reading, gardening and traveling.
Dana’s later years were spent in the Presbyterian Community in Clinton, SC.
