Wayne was born in Effingham, IL to the late Sarah Imogene (Wolfe) and Glenard E. Miller. He was preceded in death by his sister, Glenda (Dennis) Kilgore. Raised in Willow Hill, IL, he attended Newton Community High School and graduated in 1966. He then attended and graduated from Bob Jones University in Greenville, SC in 1971. Ordained as a Minister of the Gospel in 1974, Wayne also achieved a Master of Education from the University of North Florida in 1978.
He spent 22 years in private Christian education in Clinton, MD, Jacksonville, FL, Willow Hill, IL and Greenville, SC, as a teacher, administrator, coach, driver’s ed. instructor, photographer and any other job needed. Wayne also planted and pastored Heritage Bible Church of Willow Hill, IL during this time. After taking a break to work as an electrician for several years, he returned to teaching Social Studies in the Greenville County School system (Greenville, SC) until 2019 when he retired from Northwood Middle School.
Wayne was faithfully devoted to Joyce and loved her deeply. He also loved and was proud of each of his children and grandchildren. Nothing gave him greater joy than having his family together. The great burden of his life was that his family, friends, students, co-workers and anyone he came into contact with knew Christ as their Savior.
In addition to his wife of 51 years, Wayne is survived by his son, David (Cathy) and grandchildren, Jared, Courtney, Ashlee and Shannon; daughter, Debbie Skrade (Jess) and grandchildren, Lauren and Jessica; daughter, Diana Valerie and grandchildren, Claire Medina (Sebastian), Olivia and Emma; daughter, Denise Thompson (Bill) and grandson, Will; son, Daniel (Alessia) and grandchildren, Finn, Everlyn and Maeve. Also survived are his siblings Mary (Dankmar) Schroder of Albany, GA; brothers, Fred (Marilyn) Miller of Newton, IL, Ron (Kathy) Miller of Olney, IL and Roy Miller of Newton, IL.
