Clara is survived by her two sons, Tommy Kilby (Toni) of Greenville, SC, Gregg Kilby (Annie) Tampa, FL; two daughters Sarah Fowler of Greenville, SC, and Barbara Holliday of Destin FL; her brothers Roy Hodgens of Greenville, SC, and Jack Hodgens (Donna) of San Diego, CA; and 13 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and 11 great-great grandchildren.
Clara is preceded in death by her husband Thomas A. Kilby, son Steven Kilby, great granddaughter Hannah Holliday, 5 brothers, and 3 sisters.
Clara Hodgens Kilby (MaMa) was born on July 19, 1916 in Greenville, SC, to parents Benjamin Frank and Myrtle Griffin Hodgens.
Clara was a dedicated homemaker and loving caretaker to many of her family members. She enjoyed all of her children and grandchildren. She was an avid gardener and loved the outdoors. She enjoyed bird watching, and taking care of all God’s creatures. Her family and friends will always remember her love for the Atlanta Braves, her delicious cooking, and her servant’s heart but she will be especially remembered for her courage, strength, and independence. Clara was a devoted, long time member of Cedar Lane Baptist Church.
The family would like the thank all of the staff at Heartland Healthcare West and Heartland Hospice, for their dedication and loving care.
Funeral arrangements are scheduled for Saturday, September 20, 2014 at Woodlawn Funeral Home, Greenville. Visitation will be from 12:00-2:30pm, and service at 2:30pm. All are welcomed to attend and celebrate Clara’s life. Arrangements under the direction of Woodlawn Funeral Home, Greenville, SC.
