Ken was born in Greenville, SC to Jettie Wilson Ward and Louie L. Ward. Ken went right out of high school to serve his country in the U.S. Navy where he served 4 years active duty and 10 years reserved. He later retired from Steel Heddle. He was a faithful member of Washington Baptist Church where he enjoyed singing in the choir. He served 38 years as a firefighter and 28 years as a commissioner for the Tigerville Fire Department.
Ken enjoyed music and was a gospel singer and songwriter with 136 written songs published in the five major gospel publications. He was president and co-host of the South Carolina State gospel singing convention for 29 years. He was on the board of directors for Georgia Gospel Music Singing School. He enjoyed singing with the Blue Ridge gospel singers along with his wife and the South Carolina Trio. Ken enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening; he never met a stranger and enjoyed spending time with his friends and family.
Ken is survived by his wife of 68 years, Betty Jean Ward and his sister Myra Stowars; and his niece Tonya Sabrina Mitchell (Brian). He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews and a special friend and helper Ed Simmons to cherish his memory.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Donald E. Ward; his sister Carolyn Miller and his sister-in-law Ruth Ellen Mitchell.
A funeral service for Ken will be held Wednesday, November 23, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Mackey Funerals and Cremations at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 1 Pine Knoll Drive, Greenville, SC, followed by a committal service at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
